The Young Bucks vs Golden Lovers CONFIRMED for Strong Style Evolved

The Golden Lovers vs the Young Bucks will take place at Strong Style Evolved on March 25th, 2018.

Matt Jackson sounded less than enthusiastic when announcing the dream tag-team match, however. Jackson feels New Japan Pro Wrestling were too conservative when deciding on a venue for the show. The Long Beach Pyramid holds 7500 fans and all 7500 seats were sold out within 20 minutes of going on sale.

NJPW: Strong Style Evolved

The show sold out immediately despite no matches having been announced beforehand. Just a few days before tickets were released to the public, however, Cody turned on Omega at New Beginning in Sapporo, peaking fan interest at just the right time.

Here are the matches announced for the show thus far:

  • Golden Lovers vs the Young Bucks
  • Jushin “Thunder” Liger vs Rey Mysterio Jr
  • IWGP United States Championship
Jay White (c) vs. Hangman Page

This leaves Cody, who main event’ed the 1st Long Beach show last year with Kazuchika Okada, without an opponent for SSE. It’s possible he will be placed in a match opposite Kota Ibushi, who also doesn’t yet have a match announced for the show.

Dream Match for the Young Bucks

Golden Lovers vs the Young Bucks is a dream match the Jackson brothers have been asking for dating all the way back to 2012.

He posted the following in September 2012:

This was after Omega signed with NJPW in 2014:

a fan also posted this of a Q&A session where the Bucks again mentioned wanting to face the Golden Lovers.

The Young Bucks at Heavyweight

On recent episodes of “Being the Elite”, Cody has been goading the Bucks into moving up to heavyweight. It seems his efforts were successful.

Omega and Ibushi were a junior heavyweight tag-team during their first run as well, however, so each team is dealing with a change of division.

In terms of how this match impacts the heavyweight tag-team division moving forward, it could be said the winner of this match would be in line for a tag-team title opportunity but there is no telling when that would be. 1/2 of the heavyweight tag-team champions, EVIL, is currently out with a broken orbital bone.
