Last month, Billy Corgan took full ownership of the National Wrestling Alliance. He’s since stated he hopes to begin live events in the spring. In the meantime, current NWA World Champion, Tim Storm, is gaining publicity for the organization by appearing on Championship Wrestling from Hollywood (available on the FITE app).
Here is what Corgan had to say regarding when he hopes the NWA will begin promoting events:
“Unless something changes in the near future, we’re on a path to start running shows probably in the spring. We’re going to originally start with just being a television product, and what I mean by that is we’re going to probably do shows for free on the internet,” he said. “We haven’t worked out the specifics yet, but we will be hopefully a weekly show that anybody can watch anywhere in the world for free behind no paywall, and we’ll start signing talent and we’ll start running our own shows. So we want to build up the brand by putting the wrestling first and the product first, and hopefully we’ll create a fan base and some momentum, and then if we make deals it’ll be based off what we’re doing, not what we hope to do.”
Corgan has also taken control over the NWA’s social media accounts and has begun releasing mini-documentaries on YouTube. The promotion has posted a series of 3 videos (thus far) titled “NWA 10 Pounds of Gold”.
What Else is Billy Corgan/NWA Working On?
Corgan has been somewhat tight-lipped about what he is working on. Last month he had this to say regarding keeping some information private from fans:
“We really see the NWA as a long-term thing, so we want to build it the right way. We’ve been very cautious about the information we let out, not because there aren’t things to hype, there’s plenty of things to hype, but if they don’t come true we don’t want that coming back conversely on the NWA.”
Nick Aldis (aka Magnus) will challenge Tim Storm for the NWA championship on November 12th on Championship Wrestling from Hollywood.
