ROH Final Battle Preview

ROH Final Battle
December 15th, 2017
Hammerstein Ballroom
New York City, NY

Main Event
ROH World Championship
Cody (c) vs. Dalton Castle

  • Cody’s 16 title defenses rank 9th all-time in ROH history.
  • He will head into the show having held the title 172 days (14th all time).
  • Cody is 18-1-1 in ROH singles matches. He went to a time-limit draw with Christopher DanielsĀ and was beaten by Jay Lethal in a Texas Bullrope match.
  • Castle has had 10 singles matches in ROH in 2017. He’s 8-2. His only losses were an ROH World Championship shot against Christopher Daniels in April and to Cody in February. Castle is also 3-2 in multi-person matches this year having won the Soaring Eagle Cup Final Four Way Elimination match, a 3-Corner Survival match in May and a 3-way in February.

New York Street Fight
Bully Ray & Tommy Dreamer vs. the Briscoes

  • If Bully Ray really is retiring it makes sense for him to go out alongside Tommy Dreamer against a couple of younger guys who wrestle a similar style. That the match will be held in ECW’s NYC home is fitting as well. He hasn’t wrestled a match in ROH or anywhere else since September.
  • Tommy Dreamer has never officially participated in an ROH match
  • The Briscoes are the most decorated team in ROH history. They’ve held the title on 8 occasions and defended the belts 36x, both of which are ROH records.

ROH Tag Team Championships
the Motor City Machine Guns (c) vs. the Best Friends

  • The current champions have defended the belts 6x so far. A win here would tie them for 8th all-time with War Machine, El Generico and Kevin Steen, and several other teams.
  • The Best Friends are coming off a successful NJPW debut at the World Tag League 2017. They went 4-3 in the tournament and then defeated Death Juice on the final night of the tour. They’ve been together since 2013 but only recently started teaming with each other in Ring of Honor and New Japan.

ROH TV Title
4-Way Elimination
Kenny King (c) vs. Punishment Martinez vs. Shane Taylor vs. Silas Young

  • King has successfully defended the title 6x. A win here would tie him for 7th all-time in that category with Bobby Fish
  • Neither of the other 3 wrestlers has won singles gold in ROH.

Jay Lethal vs. Marty Scurrl

  • As his opponent at Final Battle has brought up on commentary recently, Jay LethalĀ is in a slump. He has lost three of his last for singles matches in ROH. He’s lost 2 straight to Matt Taven and another to Punishment Martinez.
  • Lethal’s biggest loss recently came in a Last Man Standing match against Silas Young at Death Before Dishonor.
  • As for Marty Scurll, 2017 has been his greatest year by far. This will be a match to determine if one wrestler continues his ascension up the rankings or the other continues his dissension down.

Other scheduled Matches:

  • Matt Taven vs. Will Ospreay
  • the Addiction vs. War Machine
  • ROH 6-Man Tag Team Titles
the Hung Bucks (c) vs. Flip Gordon, Dragon Lee & Titan
