Earlier today on the New Japan Cup finale show, Davey Boy Smith Jr & Lance Archer were victorious on the preliminary card over former IWGP Heavyweight Tag-Team Championships, Toru Yano & Tomohiro Ishii.
Following the victory, the pair called out current champions, Evil & Sanada. While KES might be hoping for a tag-team title shot soon, it is still unclear how much longer EVIL will be sidelined. The former ROH loaned wrestler has been on the sidelines since mid-February with a broken orbital bone. Such an injury can take weeks to months to heal and there is no typical timeline for return.
Killer Elite Squad Defeat Yano & Ishii
Davey Boy Smith Jr had revenge on his mind at the New Japan Cup finale show. Smith had been eliminated by Yano in the tournament’s 1st round. Yano would take the Killer Bomb to close this match, however, giving KES the victory.
KES spent most of 2017 trading wins and losses to the Guerillas of Destiny and War Machine. In the end, it would be KES who would come out of a series of tag-team triple threat matches with the belts. They would drop the titles to the winners of the World Tag League, Evil & Sanada, at the Tokyo Dome this year, however. They have yet to receive a rematch. Now it seems, the duo is ready to once again challenge for the titles.
Possible Dates for Killer Elite Squad vs. Evil & Sanada
Assuming Evil & Sanada accept KES’ challenge, a title match between the two teams will depend on when Evil returns from injury. If he’s ready to return, Sakura Genesis makes for a potential date and location for the match.
Strong Style Evolved in Long Beach is also coming up and only has 3 announced matches thus far. With the show taking place in just days, however, it doesn’t seem likely they book a title match on such short notice.
